چکیده

Large, lightweight, high power, L-band phasedarrays are required to enable future NASA synthetic aperture radar (SAR) missions. The transmit/receive (TIR) module is a key component in SAR antennas and the TIR module efficiency has direct implications on the power dissipation and power generation requirements of the system. Significant improvements in the efficiency of the TIR module will make SAR missions more feasible and affordable. The efforts described in this paper are part of a three-year on-going task sponsored by the NASA Earth Science Technology Office (ESTO) under the Advanced Component Technology (ACT) program. We will describe the current status and recent results of a novel TIR module technology to achieve ultra-high efficiencies. The TIR module performance goal is to achieve an overall module efficiency greater than 70% with a minimum of 30-Watts output power at L-band frequencies.

High-Efficiency L-band T/R Module: Development Results

Future interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) systems require electronically scanned phased-array antennas, where the transmit/receive (T/R) module is a key component. The T/R module efficiency is a critical figure of merit and has direct implications on the power dissipation and power generation requirements of the system. Significant improvements in the efficiency of the T/R module ...

High-Efficiency L-band Transmitmeceive Module for Synthetic Aperture Radar

Space-based radar places significant demands on the spacecraft resources (mass, power, data rate) and is therefore very expensive to implement. These systems typically require active phased-array antennas with hundreds or thousands of Transmit/Receive (TIR) modules distributed on the array. Highefficiency is a vitally important figure of merit for the radar T/R module because it reduces the pow...

Four Channel Transceiver Array for Functional Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy in the Human Visual Cortex at 9.4 T

Introduction: Functional magnetic resonance spectroscopy (fMRS) at ultra-high field (UHF) strength (≥7T) is a method to investigate the metabolism of the human brain during task induced stimulation [1] or pharmalogical challenge [2]. A region of special interest is the visual cortex which undergoes metabolic changes during visual stimulation [1]. The UHF thereby allows for increased spectral an...

Augmenting Synthetic Aperture Radar with Space Time Adaptive Processing

Wide-area persistent radar video o↵ers the ability to track moving targets. A shortcoming of the current technology is an inability to maintain track when Doppler shift places moving target returns co-located with strong clutter. Further, the high down-link data rate required for wide-area imaging presents a stringent system bottleneck. We present a multi-channel approach to augment the synthet...

First-year sea ice melt pond fraction estimation from dual-polarisation C-band SAR – Part 1: In situ observations

Understanding the evolution of melt ponds on Arctic sea ice is important for climate model parameterisations, weather forecast models and process studies involving mass, energy and biogeochemical exchanges across the ocean–sea ice–atmosphere interface. A field campaign was conducted in a region of level first-year sea ice (FYI) in the central Canadian Arctic Archipelago (CAA), during the summer...
